The Clever Girl Finance book launch was held in NYC on Monday July 8th
The book launch of Bola Sokunbi at Clever Girl Finance was one of the best talks and panels that I've been at in a long time. The room was full of dope women with financial and career acumen that would make you say wow! I purchased her book, and hope to apply it to my financial lifestyle.
I've been following Bola for sometime now, my name is also Bola 🙂 And meeting her, I love that she doesn't skimp on luxury. Luxury is often a struggle with me because I feel so much guilt spending money. However there is a time a place for it. I learned that it should not be a rat race especially when it comes to saving.

Here are some of the five things that I picked up from the event:
Broke Friends Can't Help You Be Rich
Say that louder for the people in the back! Broke friends can't help you be rich. This is a figurative statement! Mental wealth is so important to a friendship. If you're not being stimulated - if you're not being pushed to greater lenghts... then are they really your friend?
Write Down Your Purchases
How often do you write down your purchases? Never, even for me I use a system to automate and categorize your expenses. But imagine if you took it back to the olden days and wrote down the $3 coffee you got in the morning, then the $16 dollars you spent for a salad during lunch, then the $33 you spend during happy hour? Yea, its all about impact. I think this is a month for every clever girl - just imagine where you would end up financially at the end of the week if you continued?
Forgive Yourself of Your Financial Mistakes
Pretty straight forward right? Often times - when I go a week with feverish spending. Or I buy a nice pair of shoes, or I buy that shirt that I didn't need. I need to forgive myself. You can't sit there and wallow in the past. You have to square your shoulders, forgive yourself and think about how you'll do better in the future.

Find Your Tribe Quicker
This photo says it all! Sometimes you need a group of like minded people to push you to keep excelling in what you do. Just like the first point - I think its important to have people who are in the same space as you mentally. You need people who will want to feed you information and make sure you eat too.
Leverage Your Side Hustle
Side hustles are important when starting your business. With a side hustle, you can build that to be your main hustle. Take time to take your side hustle seriously. Bola said she made 70k one year doing photography. That's insane - but there's a market for it and you can make money.
